Kinds of Sealers for Brick Pavers

Brick paver sealers come in either water-based, or oil based. While each has it's benefits, water based sealers are now leading choice of most paver sealing professionals. Here, we will explain some of the differences in oil based and water based paver sealants, and one of our sealing pros can help you decide which product is best for your paver project.

Oil Based Sealers

While oil based sealers can achieve a nice shine, there is a much greater possibility of whiting, and it does not provide the joint stability (sand locking) of a properly applied water based sealer. In addition, oil based paver sealers can cause the area to become slippery, so we do not recommend using an oil based sealer around pool areas or walkways. 

Water Based Sealers

In the case of a water-based sealer, the polymer particles are dispersed in water. When the sealer is applied to concrete, the water evaporates and the polymer particles move closer together. Water based sealer for brick pavers has made rapid advances in the technology and techniques over the past few years, and have become the #1 choice of paver sealing professionals everywhere.
